blog #427 >> Pumpkin Party

Today was my family's annual pumpkin carving party. It was a great day complete with costumes, hayrides, s'mores, hot dogs on a stick and lots and lots of pumpkins. Last year I made this happy gnome and the year before I made a robot. This year, I decided to go with a pirate ship, and it actually turned out better then I thought it would. I only wish it were life size. I wonder what I should make next year?

blog #426 >> Pumpkin Puree

Thanks to Amy, I've got about six cups of homegrown - homemade pumpkin puree in the refrigerator. It's taken me all night to cook and mash it up, but I have a feeling it will be well worth it. I'm still trying to decide if I should attempt a pie, or play it safe with cookies. But there's enough there, I think I'll do both. Pumpkin butter has also been suggested ...mmm... there's just so much to choose from! And I roasted up the pumpkin seeds. Why waste them?! They'll make such a great lunch snack!

blog #425 >> Egg Cozy

Well... it started out as a hat. Then it was a tea cozy. And well... it just kept on shrinking and shrinking and at last it was an egg cozy. The cooler weather has hit, and the knitting needles have come out. I'm still thinking about trying this sweater. But it looks a little beyond my current knitting skill level. If I start it now... it might possibly be finished by next summer.

I know I post a lot of creek photos, but it's just so photogenic!
Here are the pictures from last weekend, it was so nice and sunny down there. I thought, I'd better spend the last few sunny weekends down there, because it's going to get cold really soon.

blog #423 >> Pear Sauce

Every year I get free pears from my parents' orchard and every year I completely overestimate how many pears I actually need. It's just so easy to keep on picking them up. And when I get them all home and lay them out, I realize it's going to take me forever to use them all up! This year I boiled them all down along with some apples and cooked up some homemade fruit roll ups. They turned out fantastic! And they're so much cheaper than the ones you buy at the store. I should have enough to last me the entire year!

blog #422 >> Rainy Night at the Creek

See I'm being good! I'm posting this right away instead of later. I just got back from eating dinner down at the creek and it was lovely there. Rainy... but lovely. If there's one thing I've learned, it's if you wait for it to stop raining before you go somewhere, you'll never go anywhere. And you'll miss the sound of the dripping water, and the beauty of the early evening fog rolling in, and the smell of the fresh damp earth. Plus, with a nice crackling fire, everything seems cozy.
